Historic Landmark

Our historic building, constructed in 1896 in the Victorian Eclectic style, served as Shelbyville High School through 1911. From 1912 to 1929, it served as a middle school for seventh- and eighth-grade students, and from 1930 to 1997, it housed the administrative offices of Shelbyville Central Schools.

In 1998, Shelbyville Central Schools donated the building to Blue River Community Foundation (BRCF). With support from grant funding and local donations, BRCF restored much of the building’s interior. Today, the building remains home to BRCF’s offices, as well as the Addison Times, Su Casa, two local attorneys, and a mental health provider.

The building is located within two of Shelbyville’s historic districts: the Westside Historic District and the Shelbyville Commercial Historic District.

In 1997, Arthur Thurston established the Arthur M. Thurston Family Fund for Town Hall. Having fond memories of attending school in the building, Arthur wanted to help ensure the long-term care and preservation of this treasured local landmark. The fund supports ongoing maintenance and preservation of the building for future generations.
