Blue River Community Foundation (BRCF) announced the 2018 Spirit of Community Award recipients at the annual meeting on June 27th. The intent of the individual category award is to shine light on the extraordinary generosity and leadership of outstanding individuals/families/companies who demonstrate community spirit though their service and giving. An award is also presented to a nonprofit organization that has shown a measurable difference in bringing about a positive change in our community. The individual recipient directs a $500 grant to the organization of his or her choice, and the nonprofit organization winner receives a $500 grant as well.

Greg was awarded the Spirit of Community Award in the individual catefory for involvment in various community efforts and participation in community groups such as the Southwestern Hometown Fund and the Shelbyville Rotary Club. Greg has been instrumental in the establishment and growth of Pantry Pals as well.
The Spirit of Community Award for an organization was presented to Lambda Chi Sorority, Fairland Chapter. This group contacted BRCF about a small grant to help build a playground in Fairland. Working with this group, the town and township trustees, BRCF awarded a larger, approximately $50,000 grant to fulfill a goal of a playground and park that the groups had been envisioning for their community.
